The Journey of Joan of Arc: Shattering Military and Gender Barriers

Long-Term Effects

"Children say that people are hung sometimes for speaking the truth." -Joan of Arc, 1412-1431

Women and even men were inspired to be determined like her and go after what they want. They thought of her in a whole different way. Before they thought of her as a young, poor girl, now they thought of her as a strong woman who gets what she wants for the good of others. Once she proved that she can lead the French military she was given more responsibilities.

Even though Joan of Arc broke this huge gender barrier in the military, women's rights still aren’t the same as men's rights today.  Women still get paid less and are thought of as lesser in athletics. Joan of Arc opened the opportunity for women to go after what they want. After people found the true story of Joan, they realized that women can do the same things that men can do.
